PayPal for Malaysians

Just few days ago, I’ve posted on 2 ways of earning money online. First is to write product reviews (mostly movies, games, gadgets) on Ciao Consumer Community. I’ve earned around USD $ 36 so far but I must admit it’s not that simple. It requires a lot of hard work. Another money earning program is actually to post up discussion topics and to reply to other people’s topics in MyLot. Both of these require you to have PayPal account. For those Google Adsense users, fear not, Google doesn’t pay via PayPal. :)

Anyway, to apply for PayPal is quite a straightforward process. You fill up your details and most importantly your email address. PayPal account = your email address and you will use it in all your payments. So make sure you have the right email address especially the primary email address.

Next, you will need a credit card, preferably a VISA credit card for Malaysians. This is because PayPal (as of now) does not allow people to withdraw the fund in PayPal to MasterCard credit cards. Only VISA cards can be used. When adding your VISA credit card, you will need to verify the transaction before PayPal confirms the card to be yours. You can go to your credit card statement, copy the 4-digit in front of the transaction and paste it to the card verification field inside PayPal. This is your PayPal Code.

Quoted from PayPal.com

Your unique, randomly generated 4-digit PayPal code is displayed on your credit or debit card statement next to or near the PayPal fee. In the item description section, you will see it next to the word PAYPAL.
Allow a few business days for the PayPal code to appear on your online card statement. If you do not have online access to your statement, you’ll need to wait for your statement in the mail.

The PayPal will charge $1.95 to your credit card in order to verify it. Don’t worry about it since the $1.95 will later be refunded to your PayPal account after your card has been confirmed.

However, for credit card, it’ll only minus the cash from your balance. Say you have $100 in your PayPal, withdraw it, it’ll become $95 (PayPal charges $5 per withdrawal and 1% if you withdraw the maximum $500). This $95 will help to minus all your credit card balance and you will not get any cash out unless you use a Debit Card.

For Debit Card, PayPal only recognizes Public Bank Debit Card. There are already people who managed to withdraw successfully into their debit cards but there are also people who are facing some issues.

Either way, that doesn’t deny the fact that the money is still with you. :) Enjoy and if you have any problems, do not hesitate to ask here.

Based on some Malaysian bloggers, it’s actually better than Public Bank. Maybe I should change too. Here are the links:

I’ve heard good stuff about it, more than Public Bank’s. Just that Al-Rajhi is quite rare =_=

I think there’s one more bank but I’ve forgotten about the name. These 2 are the more popular ones. If you happen to know other debit cards which PayPal can use, do share with us. :D

Hey some update about Public Bank’s debit card (you can read the post on my blog). It works now for me. It was a silly mistake on my part, so learn from my mistake!

I did enquire about the card from Al Rajhi and what I was told by the staff was that it’s NOT supposed to work with Paypal as they discourage it. But if you got it working, then good for you.

@ Penny
I’ve yet to use any debit card including the Al Rajhi one. I’m planning to go for Public Bank’s debit card since the bank is just opposite my office. Currently my PayPal only has $5. hahahah.

Good to hear that you got it working for you. :)
